Catalytic Africa Start-Up Matching Fund – €60,000 in Grants.
Catalytic Africa is a matching fund by the African Business Angels Network (ABAN) and AfriLabs that aims to strengthen African startups, innovation hubs, and angel investors while delivering impact results to institutional funders.
We co-invest with angel investors in innovative startups with matching funds in the form of a grant.

Matching Ratio
THE MAXIMUM FINANCING FROM THE MATCHING FUND IS €60,000 PER TRANSACTION.
2:1: If the business angel invests an amount less or equal to €10,000, then the matching fund will double the amount of funding the startup receives from the angel investors.
3:1: If the business angel invests more than €10,000, then the matching fund will triple the amount of funding the startup receives from the angel investors.

How Does Catalytic Africa Work?
1. Registration
Fill in the registration form. All stakeholders have to register, whether you are a start-up, an innovation hub, an angel network, or an angel investor.
2. Submit a matching application
The investors, members of an ABAN local angel network, after investing in a startup supported by an AfriLabs hub, apply for matching funds.
3. Application review
The application will be examined to ensure it meets the eligibility criteria and compliance requirements.
4. Matching application approved or rejected
If your application is approved, the funds will be disbursed.
5. Progress report
The hub that supports the startup will report monthly to Catalytic Africa on the progress of the startup.
Funds are distributed as follows:
82.5% of the matching funds are paid to the startup.
10% of the matching funds are paid to the hub to provide follow-on support to the startup and report on its progress.
5% is allocated to the Catalytic Africa administration.
2.5% is paid to the local Angel Network that the angel investors are members of.
Who is Eligible?
1. Startups
Registered as a hub member of the AfriLabs network
Other Requirements
- Be at least at the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) stage.
- Have secured investment from eligible angel investors
2. Innovation Hubs
Registered in AfriLabs hubs network.
3. Local Angel Networks
Registered in ABAN Angel Network.
4. Angel Investors
Registered in a Local Angel Network of ABAN network.
