What is the PREO Program?
The PREO program is a demand-led initiative that promotes the productive use of renewable energy (PURE) in sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, and the Pacific Island Countries. Supported by the IKEA Foundation and UK aid via the Transforming Energy Access platform, PREO aims to stimulate local economic development, enhance livelihoods, and contribute to the global clean energy transition. The program focuses on sectors such as agriculture, transportation, and small-scale industries, providing funding and technical assistance to innovative business models and projects.
Program Benefits
PREO offers up to 20 grants, each ranging from EUR 200,000 to EUR 300,000, to support eligible projects.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the PREO program, you must meet the following criteria:
- Be a legally registered and physically established business or non-profit organization based in a sub-Saharan Africa country (excluding South Africa).
- Propose a project that focuses on the productive use of renewable energy, such as biogas, geothermal, hydropower, solar PV, solar thermal, or wind power.
- Demonstrate the viability of your solution and its potential for scalability and impact.
- Be willing to complete your project within 12-24 months.
