WORLD BANK GROUP YOUTH SUMMIT 2022

WORLD BANK GROUP YOUTH SUMMIT 2022

EVENT DATE: May 26-27, 2022

BACKGROUND

COVID-19 has halted years of global development progress and exacerbated inequalities in education, health, income, and opportunity access. The pandemic’s impact on the world’s poorest and most vulnerable people has been particularly catastrophic.

About 97 million more people are living in poverty because of COVID-19, and the loss in human capital wealth globally due to gender inequality is estimated at $160.2 trillion.

In the post-COVID era, the concept of inclusive growth has emerged as a fundamental topic motivating talks on recovery and growth. The outcome of COP26 has only served to emphasize the necessity for a comprehensive plan and action.

The 2022 Summit will look at the many concerns that the global community is facing, and the role of youth in overcoming these issues. The Summit will bring together young people from over the world to brainstorm new ideas and solutions. This is to ensure that recovery and progress in the post-COVID world is not only equitable and sustainable, but also inclusive on socialenvironmental, and economic levels.

Discussions and activities during the world bank youth Summit will focus on solutions that foster:

It is vital for equitable growth to increase chances for everyone, particularly the underprivileged, to participate fully in markets, services, technologies, and society.

Economic inclusion by providing inclusive, equitable access to economic opportunity is critical to sustainable global development by building green, resilient communities, fostering inclusive green growth, and ensuring no communities are left behind in the fight against environmental degradation and climate change.

WHY DOES THIS SUMMIT MATTER?

The World Bank Group’s crisis response has aided countries in saving lives and livelihoods threatened by COVID-19, as well as laying the groundwork for a long-term and stable recovery in a world changed by the epidemic.
